Сегодня наткнулся в MVP конференции на пост MVP Rodney R. Fournier. Это всего лишь мнение человека, но очень на мой взгляд интересное 🙂 Я выделил голубым то, в чем с ним солидарен.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
The product was rushed to market. It was not feature complete. To get it out the door working components from Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 were dropped, to be added back with SP1. The RTM is not an RTM product, it’s an Alpha. The first real feature complete Beta will be SP1. Then the release will be SP2 that is when companies should start rolling it out.
The GUI is not complete; most things can only be done with Exchange Management Shell cmdlets. You can’t even use Cluster Administrator to control your cluster! Why? Because the distributed lock manager and Dll’s were not written very well. Using Cluster Administrator can cause corruption and is not supported. Great, nice features! SP1 will add a way to move the cluster groups without having to use PowerShell, but it still won’t fix the Cluster Administrator issues.
A final list of SP1 enhancements can be found here — http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676323.aspx. Go have a look, you will find “new” features that were part of Exchange Server 2003, but failed to make the RTM 2007 product. Public folders and GUI enhancements are the biggies, but the list is very long.
Don’t even get my started on all the clustering issue (besides the ones already mentioned). The fact that you can’t uninstall via the GUI setup. The help files not containing usable examples. The misspelled error messages and countless setup issues/bugs. I will stop, my blood is already heating up too much.
Exchange Conclusion – add it all up, missing features, rushed product, poor administration and it is time to wait for at least SP1 before you deploy.
Don’t get me wrong, I use Exchange Server 2007 everyday, my mailbox at work is on it. I use my Windows Mobile 5 & 6 phones against it. I have taken and passed the MCP exams. I just think we are getting the short end of what could be a fantastic product. I did not sign up to be a beta tester in the production world!
